The British Institute

The TBI School that is now TBI Riau was first established in 1984 and was The British Institute’s very first school. TBI Riau is located in a historical old Dutch building on Jalan Martadinata, 189A and currently caters to over 1300 students. The school is a centre that caters for young learners to adults by providing a variety of core programmes ranging from young learner and teenage classes to Global English, Conversation and Exam Preparation courses.

TBI Riau is also a teacher training centre and regularly runs 30 hour teacher training programmes which include our General Introduction to Teaching English (GITE), Introduction to Teaching English to Children (ITEC) and Introduction to Teaching English to Pre-Schoolers (ITEP). One day Teacher Development Workshops (TDW) are also offered on a regular basis with topics changing between workshops and new topics being added regularly.

In January 2012 TBI Riau moved from its previous location on Jalan Jawa to the location on Jalan R.E. Martadinata and is now equipped with more and bigger class rooms and more modern facilities to enhance your learning experience. TBI Riau provides students with a friendly and supportive study environment, with teachers who are trained to expertly deliver the school’s various course types. TBI Riau’s customer service staffs are on hand to advise parents and students in all administrative and academic matters and to help them to decide upon the best study options.
